Patrick Lohlein

Patrick Lohlein has lived and worked in China and Southeast Asia for over 15 years. A graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies, he is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Standard Thai, with excellent strategic leadership and diplomatic negotiation skills, built on a career that covers business development, project management and consulting for companies, government agencies and non-profit organisations in Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the UAE.

He initially began his consultancy career during his studies of Classical and Modern Chinese in Taipei and Beijing from 1992-95, successfully completing various marketing and communications assignments on behalf of local companies. After relocating to Bangkok in 1998, he specialised in training for the legal and finance sectors and his clientele soon grew to include Thai banks and government agencies, as well as several of the world's largest multinational corporations. From 2000-2002 he successfully planned and led the international marketing and business development activities of Bangkok Hospital Group, establishing representative offices and agent networks in neighbouring countries and opening important new markets as far afield as Europe and the Middle East, to become recognised as one of the pioneers in Thailand's medical tourism sector.

In the wake of China's WTO accession in 2002, he took up an offer to manage several projects on China's economic reforms, which gave him the opportunity to work with and teach at several of China's top universities and research institutions, conducting research into various economic policy subjects and providing direct consultations to government agencies in various parts of China.

Among various other accomplishments, he was a co-founder of the Centre for Professional Excellence in Thailand, taught at the International Academy for Leadership in Germany, served as Secretary-General of the Thai-German Association and established a highly profitable new branch as Interim Head of an international training franchise.

Based in the UK since 2008, he was Head of Marketing for Intelligence Research Ltd, a London-based publishing company specialising in the analysis of political, security and economic affairs in Asia and Latin America, before going on to establish Go East Consulting in July 2009.
